Handcrafted in the village of San Dionisio Ocotepec, Fuego Y Humo's wild arroqueño has Jose's signature creamy and welcoming sweet taste. Notes of caramel, cream frosting, and roasted agave dominate along with a lingering sweet aftertaste that always invites another sip. This delightful mezcal is perfect for the tequila lovers out there that really want to broaden their experience and palate with agave spirits, but also beloved by mezcal aficionados alike.
Overall sweet, agave forward, with just a bit of smoke at 47% ABV.
A day in the life of an arroqueño
Known as the "century plant" these species of agave are one of the largest found in the Americas. The agave itself reaches heights of 13 feet (the quiote, or flowering stem, can grow upwards of 30 feet). Each plant itself can weigh upwards of one thousand pounds (500 kilos)! This particular sub-species of agave americana is found wild as well as semi-cultivated throughout the mountain terrains of Oaxaca.
Stories from the palenque
This particular batch was harvested in the hills of Sola de Vega and then trucked 2 and half hours back to Jose's palenque in SDO. The roasting was completed back in 2022 in Jose's largest horno, which can hold up to 16 tons of agave. This resulting arroqueño batch ultimately yielded around 1,100 total liters of delicious mezcal. Over two and a half years since first produced, Fuego Y Humo is excited to introduce the remaining liters of this wonderful batch that has continued to evolve and improve with time!
